Re: [AshevilleTrackClub] Re: Winded after run

Felicia,

For most runners this a cold-weather condition.  It will probably go away as the weather warms.  I was Rx'd an inhaler, albuterol as I recall, very inexpensive.  It worked fine with no side-effects.  I took it before the run/race.  I also took Singulair for a while...very expensive but it worked great.  Presently no longer require either. Exercise-induced asthma is very common and really no big deal, but always good to check with your physician and get the meds you need.

Hi Bill,

I am going to take your advice and call for a doc appt. If you had told me this a few days ago, I would have paid little attention. I've never had sports-related asthma before, so why now.

Fortunately, I was shooting the breeze with the receptionist at my eye exam yesterday when we both started complaining of not being able to breathe enough. It struck me as odd that she was voicing the symptoms I have been feeling this week. Then she said, "well I have asthma..."

Bill, in your case, do you notice this only after cold runs or did this progress into other runs as well? I don't want to be prescribed an inhaler if I don't need one (which is exactly what my doc will do), but I could carry one for after a race if this could possibly get worse.

Thank you for the reply!

-Felicia
