I have never used a scope and know absolutly nothing about what kind is
best for what.

I've got a Marlin 30-30 that is set up for a scope. What brand and
power would be best for deer hunting.

The choices are endless! Scopes are one item that I believe you actually get what you pay for. Some may disagree but that's been my experience. I have used...

Actually, I have had some bad scopes -- mostly el-cheapos that were on the rifle when I bought it. I switched them out for Burris and Leupold. ... From:...

4 power, is what has always been recommended. I have a Weaver 4X that I put on my Marlin 336 in 1958, and is still doing just fine for me. ... From: magiver71...

~~~PERSONAL OPINION~~~ On my old marlin 336, I have a 4x fixed scope that I like. On bolt guns, I like 3-9x scopes. Cheap scopes work fine in the hilly areas...
... I'd say it depends on how much you're going to want to spend, and where you'll be hunting (in the deep woods or in the open). A fixed power might be good...
To me, leverguns don't look right with optics. But I understand the practical nature for older eyes and for lower light conditions. For most Arkansas hunting,...
A 3-9X variable power scope is the standard. Start with an inexpensive scope like a $30 Bushnell or Tasco to see if you like using a scope. You may not. If...
