RE: [ArkansasShooters] handgun laws in vehicle

BigPaul,

In Arkansas, they are dangerously vague - Its "allowed" as an affirmative
defense (mean you have to prove yourself innocent in court essentially) for a
"journey." "Journey" has been defined by one Arkansas court to be over 30 miles
from your residence, another court defined it as being "outsided of one's usual
area" which could mean that if you commuted 100 miles routinely to work, that
work route is NOT a journey.

As a CHP instructor since 1995, I have asked all my visiting legal types on
this, and have gotten a number of variations. The consensus is however, that
since Arkansas now has a carry permit system, that judges and prosecutors will
be far more strict, and if you want to routinely carry a gun in your car - get a
permit.

My opinion - the 200 bucks to get a permit could save you thousands in legal
bills and a possible conviction that will bar you from firearms ownership.
