Welcome Sherri,

Real cute pony. Checked out his grandsire and dam. They are nice too. I had a purebred mare that had some of the same horses that were on his top half of the pedigree.

That's as far as I've gotten so far. I do know this little guy is a very nice mover. I have a friend that breeds Trakehners & Holsteiners so I do have a little bit of experience with Warmbloods so I know enough to recognize a horse with potential. I really want to do the right thing with this pony for my son. Any pointers & tips would be appreciated. I've only got 2 pictures of him right now, but they can be seen at :

My Half-Arabian ponies are Quarter Pony crosses. Some have Appy marking. I also love buckskins, grullas, duns ect... My favorite cross would be those colors with Appy marking.

I bred for sport, so a cross that ends up with jumping talent as well as
dressage gaits is
what I look for.

I like using Hackney Pony or Modern Shetland, along with sport-type Welsh cobs
or ponies
of cob type. The Hackney and Modern Shetland give great hock use, and dressage
quality
movement to the foals. Welsh is great too, but the risk exists of getting more
hunter-type
movement that sport-type movement.

My best cross to date is 1/2 BLUE STAR Arabian (Sport build), 1/4 Polish Arabian
(Park-
type), and 1/4 Hackney Pony (Harness Pony-type). Very dressage movement,
upheaded
with great necks, excellent use of hocks. I'm looking forward to a Arab x
Section C welsh
cross to be born in '09.

Color wise, I dislike gray, but don't mind it in the breeding herd. My best
mare is gray. I
look for specifically for bay, black or chestnut okay too. Spots are a huge
turn off for me,
so anything pinto or appy is very out. I won't add a pinto or appy-marked mare
to the
breeding herd, no matter how well she moves. Dilute genes are not important.

I stand a purebred Arabian stallion, 13 hands, who is a great CDE pony and who's
offspring are also showing lots of sport talent. I try to bred purebred for
pony size, but
very few of them have been cooperative. So far the purebred offspring of my
pony sized
mares and stallion have all ended up 15 hands. The crossbred offspring are much
better at
keeping my planned size.

Thank you for the invitation. We have a small place just north of
Phoenix, Arizona. We have and raise Arabs and welsh cobs. Ironically
not all of my welsh cobs are pony height but our Arabs are ;) We
(daughter and I) primarily show dressage and my son is getting into
competitive trail. As a family we trail ride quite a bit and make it
an integral part of our conditioning program. Our goal is to continue
to breed both purebred and crossbred (of both breeds) that are well
rounded and athletic enough to compete and hold their own in a
variety of venues but not so large that this aging body can't mount
from the ground ;) In this area, though Arabs are certainly popular,
we really haven't seen the pony market grow or catch on. I look
forward to reading what everyone else does with their ponies.

I did get your email and will send them out to you after Thanksgiving.
I'm off to visit family!

Your question regarding how many, there are about 18 so far but this is
very new still as we just started this spring. My dream is to have the
Arabian Pony recognized by the Arabian Horse Association and have it be
a branch of them with all the same benefits they have to offer. I have
talk with someone who is friends with someone in AHA and hope that link
might be helpful! In the meantime, I am hoping that this will grow and
meet the needs of tracking pedigrees and provide a place for registry
for those that would not otherwise be able to be registered because
they are from two Half Arab parents or for those who purchased
obviously Arabian bred ponies but do not have information on their
backgrounds so they could be a starting point and registered as
breeding stock. It is also a place for someone who might not otherwise
be able to register with AHA who may want to have proof of ownership
and identification of their Arabian Ponies.

We want this to grow for the sake of those involved. We are blazing a
trail but by no means is this type of breeding new. Only registering
them as a breed is new. There are thousands of Arabian cross ponies
across North America so we simply want to bring them all together and
shwo the world what wonderful things they can do in the showring and in
the family! We want breeders who have been doing this for a long time
to be able to be recognized for the great work they do for the ponies
they love.

Every time we take our ponies to exhibitions, they are crowd pleasers
and are enjoyed by the spectators as well as the organizers. They have
been admired for their beauty as well as disposition and versatility.
We just want to world to see how many are already out there and why!

We also want to encourage breeders adn owners to be out in the public
view and to introduce them not as Half Arabians but as Arabian Ponies!
To say they are Half Arabians is only giving credit to half of what
makes that pony great to you. It is the whole pony we want to
recognize. We do differ with AHA in that we recognize but Arabian and
not Arabian parents on the pedigree as both sides are equally
important! Non Arabian pedigrees are recorded and tracked in all
offspring along side the Arabian heritage. Percentage of Arabian blood
is monitored carefully and pictures are to make sure that a breed
standard is eestablished and maintained.

Purebred Arabians that are within the height requirements are
encouraged as they are ideal in producing more Arabian type and keeping
with a good Arabian type standard.

I hope this answers some of your questions!

Thank you,

Jean

Thank you,

Jean
