Open Martial Arts Championship
July 19-20, 2003
Sacramento State University Sacramento, CA
Student Union Building
You are invited to participate in a unique martial
arts event involving multiple martial arts styles. You
will have the opportunity to complete in two
divisions, Championship Competitor and Four-Star
Championship Competitor.
As a Championship Competitor, you can compete in
padded stick sparring and/or carenza competitions.
Since this is an open martial arts competition, you
will have the option to compete against other martial
arts practitioners such as Kung Fu, Wushu, Tai Chi,
and Karate. Competing against other martial artists
will be limited to padded stick sparring for the
Eskrima Division, and empty-hand light-contact
sparring for the Chinese and Karate Divisions.
As a Four-Star Championship Competitor, you MUST
compete and be declared the winner in each of the
following four categories:
1. Carenza
2. Short-weapons form
3. Long-weapons form
4. Padded stick sparring
After successful completion in each of the listed
areas, you will have the chance to compete in the
final championship round. Here, you will match your
skills against other martial artists from the Chinese
and Karate Divisions. This championship match will be
empty-hand, light-contact sparring.
Padded stick sparring requires safety equipment. This
includes gloves, elbow pads, headgear with a cage,
mouthguard and protective cup.
Light-contact sparring safety equipment shall include
headgear, mouthguard and protective cup.
In order for this event to be a total success and to
display representation of interest in the Philippine
Martial arts, volunteers are needed, particularly
those with knowledge and background in the Filipino
Martial Arts. If you would like to lend your expertise
please contact Maestro Dexter Labonog at 916-691-6185
or see web pages below.
