ONE YEAR Training ONLY: new Course from Khalid Khan:

As a senior guro of the Serrada system, I would like
to confirm and announce the following. ALL guros
of schools should consider the following advice.

RATIONALE FOR ONE YEAR FASTER TRAINING:

This is for the faster and accurate training of
the art to acquire more practitioners. Yet the training
I describe below is different from regular class
training. It is more semi-private to private one to one.
This is necessary as you as a Guro may be visiting
some other town, or country, and may not have 5 years
to sit there and finish the curriculum in a lazy way.
Also, you should design short 3 month to 2 week
courses to introduce new persons to the art,
in case you are visiting remote regions in other
countries like China, or South America, or Russia,
and won't be staying there for more than
a few weeks. You still have a duty to introduce
the enthusiasts (or catch the "enthusiasts")
to Serrada. Later on as time goes by, everyone
will come together and get more opportunity to
practice, but even if you are visiting for 2 weeks
anywhere on earth, show the art to a new generation
there.

HERE IS THE ONE YEAR (Local US) curriculum and
how to teach it:

1. First month: teach the student one to one
from strike 1 thru 6. At the end of month
start Basic Lock & Block so he starts playing
in the art. PHYSICAL CONDITIONING: add physical
conditioning, take any exercises from
the various hard karate styles for physical
toughness. RUN before each class. Therefore
the class cannot be inside a room now.

2. NEXT 2 months: LOCK & BLOCK Training:
Continue with teaching strike numbers, but
now add Lock & Block at second half of
class, and progress the student's capability.

3. Conditioning and basic EMPTY-HAND SPARRING:
have one student stand,
and have entire class punch and kick him
in fleshy areas to develop stamina for
impact. Then rotate student to next student.
Each student must be able to sustain 35 kicks
to either flanks.

4. NEXT 2 months: Stop Lock & Block, and
now start on basic FLOW drill. Stay on
basic until his hand becomes correct.
Tell him to play in soft hand, until
you have trained him in so many sets of
the basic drill, that his hand becomes
strong by itself. It is the control of
the stick that he has to learn, and the
switching of the step on the triangle.
Soon, add more formats to the Flow drill,
until you have taught him my basic NINE formats,
and he starts making new ones by himself,
as "cserrada" refers to them as infinite
numbers of them thru the algorithm. Actually,
if you go thru about 30 of them you are
pretty close to doing all the possibilities.

5. ADVANCED EMPTY-HAND TRAINING-1: have two
students spar without using techniques
to defend. Each must take each others
kicks and punches (to fleshy parts of the
body).

6. ADVANCED EMPTY-HAND TRAINING-2: now train
them in the 3 hubads that are obvious
the in first TWO counters against strike no. 1
(front cross block, inside sweep -and- switch block),
and the third hubad which is in Wing Block
counter for strike no. 2. This will develop
TRAPPING HANDS speed in the student.
Now have the student defend against
a fast punching attack using Serrada trapping
hands. But this training (using technique)
should come after 15 minutes of sparring
using NO TECHNIQUE so the students develop
stamina to hits first, and get used to them.
In a group attack, you are bound to get
hit anyway, so address the first situation,
so the student doesnt get scared or runs away.

7. STRATEGIC FIGHTING: now add full-beat and
half-beat, disarms, off-sets, etc. to
the Flow drill competition. Play across
center line (of chest) and high-to-low
line (standing vs standing low on ground).

8. GROUP or Semi-Private WORKOUT:
when he is sufficiently knowledgeable
the student should start attending
group classes and have him practice
with other students so he can adjust to
everyone's strike manner and weight.

9. INTERN duties: have this student instruct
new students. See how he understands the method.
He should work with students of every level,
fast ones or slow ones, and bring each to
a level. Not just the ones he likes to teach.
Keep kids out of class.

10. After ONE YEAR: certify the student with
Dalwang Grado Pangalwang Guro (Advanced Instructor)
degree.

Dont drag out the course to 3 to 4 years.
Otherwise you will only have a few students during
that time, and also you will just stay local
to Stockton.

I am not under any Grandmaster. Repeated references
by Guro Dennis about "Grandmaster" are wrong
because my grandmaster was Angel Cabales. Vincent
is grandmaster of this new academy. To him I just
offer him friendship and assistance but I
cannot have any grandmaster over me. I run my
own school.

Every guro should now teach ONE YEAR certification
course for the first "Advanced Instructor" degree.
This is the highest degree we can give out anyway
(if we are Master Guro's).
