My 2 cents:
I was always taught that the secret to Serrada was the non stick hand,
with the idea being that the stick hand is the dumb hand and the
checking hand was the smart, and highly trained one. It doesn't matter
if you are right handed or lefthanded, in Serrada you train one hand to
do one thing and the other to do something else. If you try to go back
and forth between hands, you just end up with two mediocre hands. A
highly skilled leftie has an advantage over the righthanded opponent,
mainly the lefty gets to practice against righties all the time,
whereas the righty seldoms goes against a lefty. In both Escrima and
Western fencing, even as a graduate instructor, I always had problems
against lefties (I'm righthanded.) Stick to your dominate hand and try
and go against as many people of different styles, characteristics, and
dominate hands as possible.
