Forget the politicians!
Every athlete that sets foot in China for the 2008
Summer Olympics is personally condoning the actions of the communist
Chinese government.
For what? A chance to win a hunk of bronze, silver, or gold to hang around their neck. Forget the innocent people being gunned down, I want my moment of fame and glory, that's what's important to me.

(it ain't all about politics, it's about
personal integrity)

To add to your thoughts if politicians want to boycott do it yourself and leave the rest of us alone. I agree to hide from the spotlight just about says that your agreeing with the behaviors of the host country. In the 1936 Olympics American Jessie Owens beat German runners and stood proud in front of Hitler and his nationalarian people. He didn't hide his ability to be the best he showed it off. My Uncle used to tell the story of Jessie getting his metals and seeing Hitler's disgruntled face. When the United States Boycotted the Olympics in the 1980's the only people it hurt were the athletes who trained hard and were forced to miss out for politics. It was mentioned by our news people and the other countries but has become a blip in our lives. Now tell me who remembers that Olympics and why we boycotted because of politics. As I boycott from certain countries/national chains, and stores. I DON'T stand and brag look at me and tell you not too. I just do it and feel good that I'm doing something I believe in. But I do it for me I don't make you do it nor would I expect you too unless you agreed with me. So let the politicians make the boycott important and stop trading/purchasing from theses countries and leave the athletes and rest of us alone. It is of little concern for the other countries to win the Olympics because of a politician’s banning the athletes from attending. If the politicians want to make a statement then boycott the country’s goods because that would be much harder for them economically to do and make a broader statement. It’s more of a struggle to do without something permanently then it is to do without something for two weeks. JJ p.s. We boycotted the 1980's Olympics because Afghanistan was invaded by the Olympic host country. How quickly we forget politician’s ideas. ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
