Hi all,

With the soon to be arriving new addition to our
family, I don't see that I'll ever have the need for
four gi's again therefore I'm selling two of them.

They are both size 3, one is in excellent condition,
selling for $35 and the other is in very good
condition for $25.

I'm in Brisbane and sorry, pick up only. You can
contact me off list at this address.

Cheers,
Charlie

Hello,

A small group of us (from various arts/styles around the country) are
planning a series of two 2-day weekend workshops which will be
conducted by Mike Sigman.

At this stage, nothing is concrete as we are canvassing general
interest in such a workshop. However, two workshops are being planned
for - one in Brisbane, and the other in either Sydney or Melbourne.
Each workshop will run over a full weekend (6 hours each day Sat and
Sun). It is envisaged that the cost per 2-day workshop will be
$200/person. The workshops will be limited to a maximum of 30
participants each, to ensure quality instruction and more one-on-one
time with Mike.

If there is sufficient interest in an Aikido-specific workshop, the
content will cover the following material:

1. the basics of "ki" and "kokyu" movement/training

2. "Kamae" and the concept of central equilibrium

3. these basics as they pertain to traditional Aikido exercises (e.g.
kokyu-ho, fune-kogi-undo, happo undo, wrist exercises, suburi, etc.)

4. how to use these basic concepts in a testing format between 2 people

5. "Holes", balance and "floating" (e.g. how to apply kuzushi on contact)

6. Use and application of these basic concepts through some basic
(Aikido-specific) technique examples

7. More practical examples of using these basic concepts and how to
manifest them through the "Divine Will"

8. Exercises that will help dramatically increase your kokyu power

If there are insufficient numbers to warrant an Aikido-specific
workshop, the content will be more generic and equally
applicable to ALL martial arts, such as karate, taiji and
judo/jujitsu.

For those of you who are wondering who is Mike Sigman and what does he
know...

Mike Sigman has more than 45 years of martial training in judo,
Okinawan karate, Aikido, Taijiquan, and many other Chinese martial
arts. Since 1975 Mike has devoted his time to gathering information
and training methods for the body skills surrounding all the physical
abilities of ki/kokyu/jin power and in the conditioning methods (both
hard and soft) that are involved in the body/mind training of
breathing methods.
Mike was the editor/publisher of "Internal Strength" magazine and has
written numerous articles and given numerous workshops for the last 15
years in the U.S., Australia, Europe, and Scandinavia.

Mike has recently been asked to write a series of articles for aikido
journal these can be viewed at

expression of interest to me by replying to this email.

Not sure what happened there..., but I have reattached the

Alternatively the Systema/aikijujutsu seminar should be able

Hope that works.

Hi Catherine,
Many thanks for the notice about Maruyama Sensei's Melbourne
seminar.
Unfortunately for me at that time this year happens to be
right in the middle
of the pilgrimage period that I will also be training in
Japan . I haven't quite worked out how to be in two places
at once as yet,so again I have to miss out. It seems the
eastern seaboard of Australia always gets the
benefits. (Maybe one day if the SA people get past their
petty politics we can get an open minded martial arts group
of sufficient size to warrant a visit from Maruyama
Sensei.)There are a number of us in SA who would be very
supportive and appreciative of such a visit. In the
meantime it is expected that another aikijujutsu and systema
seminar/workshop will occur in late Aug or early Sept. Next
time I meet with John Ward Sensei, I will discuss with him
the necessary logistics of the possibilty of having Master
Koretoshi Maruyama
visit Adelaide.

Kind Regards
Dante

The only response has come from those already in this forum. The
thought is now out there, perhaps it may be expanded upon. Events of
this type are commonplace in Japan, Europe the USA and elsewhere.
Its an initiative of the Doshu and those shihan networks responding
to Aiki expansion today. I believe more bridge building will take
place as time goes on. With media so readily availiable ie.Internet
ect. People and Aiki groups are connecting and sharing more openly
with colourful outcomes, this is the nature of what we are involved
with.

warning that people who play contact sports should ensure they are
vaccinated against the potentially dangerous liver disease.
Hepatitis B can lead to liver cirrhosis and cancer in chronic cases,
but until now doctors had thought the virus was mainly transmitted by
infected blood and during sex.
Researchers analysed blood and sweat from 70 Turkish Olympic
wrestlers - none of whom were obviously ill or had antibodies to the
virus - and found the virus circulating in an "occult" or latent form
in the blood of nine of them. All but one also had virus particles in
their sweat, at almost the same concentrations as in their blood.
The researchers, whose results have just been published in the
British Journal of Sports Medicine, said hepatitis B was more
transmissible than HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, because it was
more concentrated in the blood and less easily destroyed than HIV
once outside the body.
On the back of the results, the authors said vaccination against
hepatitis B should be mandatory in all contact sports. Children have
been routinely vaccinated since 2000.

If you want to do it in South Australia I would be keen to
support it there as well ... perhaps if successful it could

Hello all Dojo Cho

I would love to see an Aikido event held some where on the Queensland
South East possibly over the course of a full weekend where Aikido
dojo come together unified and sharing in the experience of honoring
one an others Aikido with a Gashuku followed by Embukai and banquet as
is often held in Japan.I have always found this manner of presentation
a wonderfully social and stimulating bridge builder. We all know of
one an other so why not get together and enjoy the possibility of
creating something memorable. The only thing is that it would take a
great effort collectivly to pull off. Has any one out there been
thinking along these lines lately.?

Kind Regards.

Dear Aikidokas,

I received this from a woman who sent this on to me and another list, at least.
It is a wondefully powerful meditation for self-healing, peace and the beautiful
music by Laura Powers is so evocaive and spiritully uplifting that anyone who
hears, "Dance, 'Till the Rain Bgins" could not but fail to be moved. Please go
to the site and have your speakers on, and, if need be, your micrphone headset
on (if you worry it'll disturb others - but I think it is so soothing, it'll
calm people around you even at a reaonable volume. Your decision!). I am
currently 1st kyu and training for Shodan which, since I will be staying with a
friend in Bonn, Germany, from the begining of pril until the end of June, I
would like to obtain so I can attend a famous dojo in Bonn feeling calmer than
if I had not been doing intensive Aikido with my partner after many years of
irregular sesions (due to study and chronic pain from endometriosis-related
pelvic adhesions, plus surgeries and the way they ensure bed rest and fatigue
for months afterwards which is not conducive to training!). I find the website
below very relaxing, especially before I began a session working to my Shodan
and I hope other Aikidokas on this list will fnid it of some benefit - let me
know if you also find it soothing or how you felt listening to it.

Blessings,
Kharla
aka FieryHawk, HP

P.S. The initials HP, btw, stands for High Priestess and the spiritual
path/religion I was initiated into and made an HP in is known as the tradition
of feminist Dianic witchcraft (more about this can be found through studying
ther books by the woman considered to be the grandmother of this path, beringing
it from Hungary to America, Zsuzsanna Budapest, and to other notbles in the
field such as Diane Stein, Vicki Noble, Jade (author of To Know: A Guide to
Women's Magic and Spirituality, and Barbara G. Walker whose book, The Skeptical
Feminist: Discovering the Virgin, Mother, and Crone (which I purchased at the
start of my second year in my BA degree at the University of Sydney in 1992,
having just taken up Gender Studies (then, unfortunately, called 'Womens'
Studies')) greatly upset my zealous Baptist mother! Everyone who studies Aikido
will find the beauty of Aikido is that is is compatible with all religious and
spiritual paths. For me, it is about harmony and balance (and hara, ki and
kokyu) which is what I find in my Goddess religion (known as feminist Dianic
witchcraft) or my Dianic path, as I often call my spiritual beliefs and
practices (I prefer the term Dianic Occultist and Occultism to the term
witch/witchcraft, largely due to the very negative connotations centuries of
misogynistic propaganda, through the Church from thr Inquisition time
epeciially, onwards, has created, and because what I know and practise goes
beyond the traditional teachings of witchcraft or Wicca). Many women who
identify as Dianics, i.e. Goddess-focused (and who do not believe in the concept
of a male deity who is the Goddesses consort - a female/male mythology most
typical of the majority of pagans, wiccans and witches) actually go into Aikido
more than any of the other available martial arts which I find
interesting....but I have also noticed more women in Aikido classes than in
other martial art traditions. I believe women are more open, in general, to
being able to receive ki so a uke's energy is dealt with by a beginning student
of Aikido who is a woman often with more potential than, at first, a beginning
male student may show...and the emphasis on being able to execute techniques
just as, if not more, effectively, without brute physical force, may appeal to
women (societal conditioning? Nature or nurture? That is a tough question & I
could write a book about it but it's not necessary here!).

"Love comes when manipulation stops; when you think more about the other peron
than about his or her reactions to you.
When you dare to reveal yourelf fully. When you dare to be vulnerable." - Dr.
Joyce Brothers
