Hi everyone,

You partied at Woodford, you've done BDO, lazed on the beach and marched for
peace, but still there's something missing from your Summer of 2003. Well,
limber up those wrists, 'cause we're bringing back the only thing that can
make you _truly_ sat-is-fied...

Q. What do you get when you put 14 or more players on the field at Davies
Park on a Saturday afternoon with a piece of round plastic which is curled
down at the edge?

A. The most stylish, action-packed, and above all fun game ever to come out
of the Seventies,

Ultimate Frisbee!

Here's how it's played:

Two teams of at least 7 players each start at opposite ends of the field, in
the goal zones. One team launches the disc into play towards the other team,
who take possession of it (i.e. catch it) and proceed to pass it among their
players as they move up the field toward the defending team's goal zone. At
the same time, the defending team tries to take possession of the disc in
the hope of scoring their own goal.

Block! swing! pass! duck, spin, weave and dodge, jump, grab, swat, reach,
stretch, dive and roll!

This is an interactive sport that will challenge your timing, reflexes and
fitness, build your stamina, develop frisbee skills you never knew were in
you, make you laugh, make you cry and have you roaring with elation as your
team pulls another incredible set of moves to take the final goal and decide
the match!

If it sounds exciting, that's because it is. If it sounds daunting, nothing
could be further from the truth. This is a social game, where people come
together in a spirit of mutual respect for all levels of player ability, to
have fun watching the beauty of aerodynamics in action. i.e. there is no
stupid competitive behaviour, no strongarm tactics, no bullying or abuse and
no tanties on the field. Everyone's there to help everyone, including
themselves, have a great time.

Each game begins with a warmup to introduce new players and get the feel of
passing the disc (I'm gonna need several warmups myself!). After that, rules
of play are discussed. Then teams are decided on colour of shirt (darks
versus lights) and often play starts with a slow warmup game, during which
rules of play and basic tactics may be ironed out.

"Wow!" I hear you say, "Sounds great! Where and when can I play this fun and
fantastic game?"

Well, I suggest we start off having an introductory game on -

Saturday 22nd Feb

at 3pm

at Davies Park, West End (on Montague Rd, AKA Easts Leagues Club).

After that game, players can make suggestions as to when and where they'd
like regular games to be held.

In the event of rain on the day or wet ground, keen players could meet in
the Leagues Club, for a catch up and discussion of game times and locations.

Now I know there are people who would love to hear about this, for whom I
don't have a current email contact, so please spread the word to anyone you
think might be interested.

Looking forward to seeing you on the field.

Love,

Nick.
