Each week, we pick a regional Web site to highlight, to give you a look at what's going on with AYSO regions around the country.

This week, we look at Region 462 where Gary McGuire is the Regional Commissioner. Region 462 is located in Section 1, Area R.

If you would like your region highlighted, make sure your Web site URL is up-to-date on eAYSO. Just send your URL information to Joan at the NSTC and she'll do the rest.

MLS News

The Chicago Fire feature prominently in the next two installments of MLS Thursday Night Primetime on ESPN2.  On May 17, the Fire will host Carlos Ruiz and heated rival FC Dallas (8pm ET, ESPN2).  Last year the season series was even, with each team winning at home.  Who will take the early edge this year?  One week later on May 24, Chris Rolfe and company pay a visit to Juan Pablo Angel and the New York Red Bulls.  Both New York and Chicago are in the playoff hunt early this season, and both will be looking to take three points off an Eastern Conference rival.

MoreLogoSection Conference Wrap Up

It's hard to believe the 2007 Section Conference season is already over. It was a great season and we look forward to another fun and informative year in 2008.

We are also looking forward to the NAGM and will be sending out special Goal Line NAGM Updates each night throughout the NAGM weekend. You will also be able to find the updates on www.soccer.org.

Thank you to everyone who attended their Section Conference and to everyone who makes AYSO what it is: MORE!

Volunteers Needed

While you are attending the NAGM, if you are able to volunteer a few hours assisting with registration and other conference needs, please complete the Volunteer Intent Form and email to Colleen Dalit.  We hope you will be able to help not only with the Firehouse painting on Friday but with the business meeting too.  See you there!

Youth Lounge at NAGM
Please note that if you plan to volunteer to paint the firehouses in New Orleans on Friday May 25, that the Youth Lounge will be open all day in case you'd like to leave the kids at the hotel while you paint. It will also be open other days during the conference so please check when you arrive.

NOFD crestAYSO to Help New Orleans Fire Department

On Friday, May 25th AYSO volunteers will be lending a hand to help paint firehouses that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Of the 33 firehouses in New Orleans, 23 were completely destroyed and most have yet to be rebuilt. In conjunction with the Leary Firefighters Foundation , NOFD, The Center for Education and Outreach, The James Lee Witt Foundation, the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana, AYSO is proud to be a part of rebuilding this great city.

We'll be starting at 7AM Friday morning. From the hotel we'll be divided into work crews and shuttled off to several firehouses throughout the city. If you are going to be attending the AYSO NAGM and would like to lend a hand, please email Crystal Lafata and let her know you'd like to help paint.

NAGM Firehouse Project Details

Thank you to those who have already volunteered to paint the firehouses in New Orleans. We are still accepting volunteers so please email Crystal Lafata if you are interested. You will receive a waiver form and invite sheet in your NAGM confirmation packages. If you are unsure about volunteering, we will still accept volunteer forms at the event but if you can, we ask that you mail, fax or email them into the NSTC (attn: Crystal) by May 21, 2007.

When you arrive at the NAGM, you will check in at the registration table where you can fill out a waiver form and for those who have turned in their forms prior to the event, you will receive a purple wristband to wear at the firehouse. You will not be allowed on the bus without a wristband or waiver form in hand.

Friday we will hop into our own painting clothes and will meet at 7am in the hotel lobby and then load onto the bus to leave the hotel by 7:15am. Firehouse volunteers will receive goggles and gloves at the event as well as a lunch. The buses will return to the hotel at 3pm. We would like everyone to stay the entire time so we can ensure the firehouses are beautiful by the end of the day.

Goal Safety - it's never too late!

A 10-year-old soccer player in Winchester, VA was killed last week when an unsecured portable goal tipped over on him.  The fact this was not an AYSO player does not minimize the tragedy -a tragedy that could have been averted.

The spring and tournament seasons are underway and many regions are already preparing for their fall 2007 starts.  Please remember to take the time to think about goal safety and how it protects your players, parents, the region and the organization.  Goal safety is addressed in our National Policy Statements 2.10 and in the Safety Director Manual. If you would like to obtain a copy of the Safety Director Manual, which includes goal safety as well as many other safety precautions, please contact Juanita Williams at 1-800-USA-AYSO extension 5497

AYSO Soccer Camps
SECTION CONFERENCE THANKS!

As the whistle blows on this season's Section Conferences, we wanted to thank everyone who took the time to stop by the AYSO Soccer Camp booth to visit with us.
The response to the work we have done all across the country and also the image we have created (professionalism, authenticity, value are commonly heard adjectives), cements the fact that our success is contagious as more and more regions signed up to support the AYSO Soccer Camps program.

"It was great seeing the interaction of our AYSO Soccer Camps managers with the AYSO family of volunteers. From Area Directors to Regional Commissioners to host families, our camp guys and gals have truly developed some wonderful relationships within the AYSO community." Stated AYSO Soccer Camps Liaison Bill Finkel. "It is clear that everyone is beginning to realize that by supporting the AYSO camp program, they are in turn supporting their own region as proceeds go directly back to each sponsoring region."
Thanks to everyone who took the time to attend our meetings and say hi.

Camps roll out nationwide June 4-8 and although we are close to capacity, we can still help you set up a last minute camp in your region. Check us out at www.aysosoccercamps.org or call 1-888-857-6222.

National Games 2008

The AYSO National Games 2008 lottery draw is right around the corner!  This exciting weeklong soccer celebration provides a unique opportunity for cultural exchange with numerous AYSO teams from across the nation and proximity to incredible destinations on Oahu and the neighboring Hawaiian islands.

The mailing deadline for the Lottery Intent Form has passed, but regional commissioners can still turn in their form at the National Annual General Meeting in New Orleans until Saturday, May 26 at noon.  The lottery draw for participation will be held on Sunday, May 27. Regional Commissioners must sign the Lottery Intent Form.

"View Lottery Intent Form submissions as of Sunday, May 13, 2007."

Tournament Handbook Now Online

The new and vastly improved AYSO National Tournament Handbook and related forms are now on line and downloadable. Please take a look and let us know what you think!  And tournament directors,  please start to use all of these forms - it makes your planning so much simpler!

eCerts Online Reminder

It is that time of year again when regions will start to request certificates of insurance through eCerts Online for the 2007-08 Membership year.  Visit www.soccer.org, click on AYSO Business, hold the cursor on Insurance, follow the drop down to Liability Insurance, then eCerts Login and click. Below are a few reminder points to make the process easier.  If you have questions, please call 800-872-2976 ext 5461.

1. Download the User Guide provided just below the login screen. It contains the answers to most of your questions.
2. Do not issue the certificate to the region or as "a copy."  All certificates should be issued to the property owner.
3. If using a school site, issue the certificate to the school district unless it is a private school.
4. If you are using multiple sites within a school district, park system or city, issue one certificate and make copies to give to the individual sites - if required.
5. If an owner wants to listed as "additional insured", in eCerts you must attach an endorsement.

For complete instructions on using the eCerts Online system, download the AYSO User Guide located just under the login screen on www.soccer.org.  Please remember that the holder(s) of the certificate are the owner(s) of the property and NOT you or the AYSO region.  Also, certificates are issued to school districts and not individual schools unless it is a private school.

U-10 Coach Cert Course

An online course containing much of the information needed for U-10 Coach certification is now available on the AYSO Online Training web site.  Volunteers interested in learning more about coaching these young players can be directed this site to get the basics, then need only attend a field session in order to get the certification.  As with the other AYSO Online Training courses, access is limited to currently registered volunteers, and an AYSO Volunteer I.D. number will be needed to get on the site.  Click here to learn how to access the AYSO Online Training site.

Region 751 & AYSO Soccer Camps to Host VIP Clinic

AYSO Region 751 in Hyde Park, IL will be running a FREE VIP clinic this summer with the guys and gals from AYSO Soccer Camps.
The VIP clinic is scheduled for July 9th - July 13th in conjunction with the AYSO Soccer Camp taking place that same week.
AYSO VIP Program provides a quality soccer experience for children - and adults - whose physical or mental disabilities make it difficult to successfully participate on mainstream teams. VIP teams may include those who are mentally, physically or emotionally challenged.
AYSO Soccer Camps Regional Director, Peter Knight states, "All children need to experience a sense of belonging and acceptance. The AYSO VIP program offers that acceptance and truly gives everyone a chance to play this great game. We are delighted to help in any way we can."
For more information on AYSO Soccer Camps or the AYSO VIP Program, please visit www.aysosoccercamps.org or www.soccer.org/Programs/VIP.
