Subject: Correction: Is there anything to be done for a player who can play up a division?

Dear Mark,

The issue of Hey Coach sent earlier this morning did not have the correct audio link. That link has now been corrected. Send questions, story ideas or comments to
HeyCoach@....

Thanks!

Ask The Coach...
Everything You Wanted To Know But Were Afraid To Ask

Coaches have to deal with all sorts of scenarios week in and week out. Each week John will address a question that has been sent in by an AYSO coach. This week's question is:

"There is a player whose birthday designates her to play in the U-8 division; however, she is skilled enough to play in U-10.  When the girl plays in her own age division she can score at will and the coach usually benches her after two periods or just has her play defense. The parents enjoy having her play in AYSO but feel their daughter is being punished for being skilled. Is there anything that can be done?"

Training Activities Spotlight
"My Buddy" Is An Activity For A U-8 Team

"My Buddy" works on passing skills for your U-8 team. You'll need 12 or more cones to mark the grid. Divide your players pairs, and each pair will need one ball.

Organization: Using the cones, mark a 20 X 20 yard grid, and create four or five goals that are arbitrarily placed in the grid.

How The Game Is Played: Each pir of players will move to a vacant goal - one plyaer should be dribbling the ball. When the pair gets to a goal, they pass the ball through the goal three times in order to score. Pairs move throughout the area until they have scored on all the goals in the grid. Note: If another pair is at a goal, players must go to a goal that is vacant.

Variations: Left foot passing only, right foot passing only.
