Ask The Coach...
Everything You Wanted To Know But Were Afraid To Ask

Coaches have to deal with all sorts of scenarios week in and week out. Each week John will address a question that has been sent in by an AYSO coach. This week's question is:

"What is the best way to deal with blow-outs? And how do I motivate players after a  blowout?"

Click here to the audio link for John's answer.
Training Activities Spotlight
Cone Run Shooting

Here is an activity to try at your next U-10 team practice to work on your team's shooting skills. All you need is your full team, at least eight cones to mark the grids , ten balls and a goal.

Grid Requirement: Using cones, layout a 20 X 20 yard grid or play within the penalty area

Organization: Place two cones spaced five yards apart, five yards from the top of the grid. Place one player, the Shooter, on the first cone, one player, the Keeper, in the goal, and the remaining players, the Passers, should line up five yards outside the grid each with a ball at their feet.

How The Game Is Played: The Shooter runs around the cones and as he/she approaches the first cone, the first Passer in line passes the ball to the Shooter who must hit a one-touch shot on goal. The Keeper tries to make a save. Simple rotation - Shooter becomes Keeper; Passer becomes Shooter, and Keeper retrieves the ball goes to the end of the passing line. The first player with three goals wins.

Variations: Allow no more than two or three touches before the Shooter must shoot. Have Shooters use both feet to shoot. Change the location of the passing line.
