Referees must make quick decisions, and the luxury of time to think it over, look it up or discuss it with someone is not an option during the game. Test your knowledge and see if you can answer the following questions: 

What should the referee do and how is play restarted, if, during a kick from the penalty mark by the red team to determine a winner in a drawn match (a tie), the ball hits the crossbar and bounces slightly forward then the ball...

1.  Hits the blue team's goalkeeper in the back of the head and rebounds directly into the goal?

2.  Hits the ground and is accidentally deflected into the goal by the blue team's goalkeeper?

What's The Correct AYSO Answer?

As the AYSO National Referee Administrator, I often receive inquiries regarding rules, regulations, policies, interpretation of FIFA Law and AYSO modifications. The following are some questions recently received:
 
1.  Joe, I have seen players all go down on one knee ("take a knee") when the referee stops play for an injury. Is this something the players are supposed to do?
 
2.  Joe, a team we were playing all left the field when the referee called for substitutions. Our coach has taught us to stay on the field during substitutions unless we are being replaced by another player. Which is the correct way?
