Behavior And Emotional Development Vary By Age

Hey Coach BannerThe changes in social behavior and emotional development of children can vary substantially by age, and it's important to consider the social nuances of the players that you are coaching in order to better understand them as people. Here are a few examples by age:

- Experience rapid and unpredictable mood changes
- Tell tall tales
- Need encouragement

U-8
- Afraid of failure
- Self-esteem and self concept are big issues
- Becoming more outgoing
- Actions can be influenced by peer acceptance

U-10
- May have fears of failure, not being liked, etc.
- May blame others or make up alibis to explain their own shortcomings or mistakes
- Need reinforcement
- Feelings can be easily hurt

Have Fun Fighting Malaria
Use Mosquitoes Attack At Your Next Practice

Correct Malaria LogoWe need your help for the More Than a Club: Kick It To Malaria program to be successful. Here is a game that you can play during practice to help teach your players about fighting malaria.

Mosquitoes Attack!
How to Play:

1) Make a square field about 10 steps by 10 steps (or smaller if you have only a few players).

2) Explain to the players that a malaria mosquito is trying to bite their ball and that they must keep it safe by dribbling it around while staying inside the field. The coach or parent is the mosquito.

3) Make buzzing noises and pretend to be a mosquito. Don't catch the players - just have fun!

Quotes To Coach By
"The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, I play not my eleven best, but my best eleven."
