I would like to stress that this decision has been a long time
coming, and is not a response to recent discussions on the Nottingham
email list. It is a response to what we believe to be systemic
problems in Australian croquet administration and a desire to see an
end to the closed culture in the ACA.
We are under no illusions. This will likely be a difficult campaign
- neither Bruce Fleming nor I are popular with some of those who like
to think that they run Australian croquet - but somebody has to start
the change process.
Thanks Bruce.
I don't think there's nearly enough discussion about all things croquet in Oz.
Could you perhaps give us a précis of your policies, and views on where you'd like croquet to be headed?
I only started playing croquet last February and am still a novice albeit a keen one. I continually despair the lack of publicity that croquet receives in the media and also local communities. I'd like to see state and national bodies more pro-active in this area. In some respects we seem to be a secret society as far as the general public is concerned.
For example - why wasn't croquet played at last years Melbourne Commonwealth Games? Several Commonwealth countries play our game. Many less popular sports were featured.
It seems to me, at least in Melbourne, that the last 10 years has seen a trend of fewer croquet members, and unfortunately fewer clubs as well.
We all should have a good look at what we can personally and as club members do to reverse this trend.
cheers
