Final day of Australian Presidents 8's

Kevin Beard
6 October 2008

Harley Watts from South Australia won his 2nd Eddie Hunt Trophy at his 4th attempt.  He was a clear winner with 11/14 wins from Bruce Fleming and Stephen Forster on 9 wins each.  Liz Fleming, a former winner of the Tom Howat Cup and Jean Armstrong Bowl, was 4th.

Harley's accurate break play and peeling finishes were a feature of his game.  In Harley's last game, Peter Landrebe broke down after 3-back doing a TPO with two peels completed.  Harley then TPO'ed Peter and did a single peel on his own ball to finish.  When someone commented that they were disappointed he didn't try a pop on Peter's other ball, Harley said he didn't want to put the break at risk.  Yeah right.

Winner of the Tom Howat Cup was Mark Prater (11 wins), also from South Australia.  Mark has previously come 2nd, 3rd and 4th in this event.  Simon Watkins finished second on 10 wins.  This was a great result for Simon following his 15 wins from 15 games in the Interstate Cup earlier in the year.

Claire Bassett (formerly Claire Gorton) from Victoria comprehensively won the Jean Armstrong Bowl with 13 wins including two triples.  This is her second win at this event.  Rosemary Graham was runner up with 9 wins.
