I haven't made my way back to the club, but I will, one of these days.
But I have been reading the various posts, and have enjoyed any email with the word spin, table, whatever. Its hard for non-afficianados to appreciate this fantastic world of pong.
Ken, that was an incredible post. You recreated the action for us. All of you, job well done.
Its been a few years but I remember drilling with John M. Mind you, I only did that when I was having one of those 'good days'. John kept me honest, and forced me to focus and exercise consistency.
Ken I've played with you a few times as well---and I quicky lifted a lot of serving tricks from you;
Best regards to all,
Haneef [formerly with long hair] M.

Hi Kenneth, thank you for sharing your experience. I was supposed to attend this tournament but had to cancel two days prior due to family reasons. Take care I will see you soon.

Jon Dorn, John Miller and myself went to the Newgy tournament on Saturday. It looked as if it had a good turn out , but I don't know the exact numbers.We all played well but started off slow.
We all got to playing better as the day progressed . We have John Miller playing a match against a 1890 player and it is one of the most impressive displays of play I have ever seen at any level.
He lost the match but you will have to see it to believe it and it will be posted on the internet. I played in 1700 , 1950 and doubles. I was expecting to be the 3rd seed in my first group of 1700 but was the top seed. I advanced #1 and progressed 3 rounds but lost to a player rated 1407. Before the loss to him I had been beating all my opponents fairly easily in straight game. His name is Chiesel is mainly a defender type style. As I was mainly playing a counter game he didn't give me anything to counter and I lost in 5. I have hopes he will be re-rated because last I talked to him he was still progressing in the 1700 finals. John Miller played in the u-1500 , u- 1700 and u-1950. He came out of both 1500 and 1700 and went into the 2nd round. John M amd I also played 3200 doubles where we lost in the first round to a father and son team at 11-8 in the 5th. I had hopes we would do better but I was still playing a little too passive at that time, putting a lot of pressure on John to hit the winners. We will do better next time.In the 1950's John had a match that was purely incredible. I can't do it justice so we will just let everyone watch it for themselves.In my first round of the under 1950 I lost to the A- player --- 11-9, 11-6, 16-14, 13-11. i played my best match of the tournament against this young man but lost a close one. In my next match I played another young man rated 1693 and won that match in 5 games. It was my best win of the tournament. We only had 3 in our group so I advanced. I lost in the next round 13-11,11-6, 11-7 ,this players was not only good but was smart and after the first game changed his tactics and almost shut me down completely.
Now to Jon Dorns' play . Jon was playing at a very hight level by the end of the tournament but finally had to default his final matches in the under 1950 because of back problems and fatigue. He played Doubles and with his partner progresses several round before loing to Mark H and his partner. He played in u- 2150 and came out to play 2080 chopper and lose to him in an exciting match that match old stlye smashing again a new style chopper. Jon was excellent with his drop shots and smashes but lost a close match. In his first round he beat the c and d players in his group but lost to the a player(2030) in another close match which he could have won. In the 1950 s Jon beat everyone in the first round fairly easy and was doing the same in the second round when his back started hurting. I attribute most of our fatgue and physical problems to poor planning on our part. We didn't bring any food or drinks and didn't have anyone to send out so from 8 am to 8 pm we had only water to drink and no food. Next time we will plan better.
We all had a lot of fun and looking forward to next time. i promise it won't be another 8 years before I attend another.
