Table Tennis In the Mainstream
Here's an interesting NYT article about the popularity of Table Tennis in the U.S. Don, thanks for finding it.

On the same topic, there's a documentary called Niche: American Table Tennis in production by Daft Films that could help educate the average american about the sport. The trailer looks pretty good, so check it out, and let's hope it makes an impact.

2006 Senior Olympic Games
Austin Table Tennis will be hosting the table tennis competition as part of the Texas Senior Olympic Games. The Seniors Alliance Group recently reserved our facility when their prior arrangements fell through. The club is reserved Thursday from 10am to 6pm and Friday from 10am until 7pm next week.

The Fall Open (9/23) Is Full ?!
I can't remember the last time we filled up a tournament this early, but it's true. Email director@... to get on the waiting list. It's not uncommon for a couple players to dropout prior to the tournament date, so there's still a chance you can get in.

Second Sunday Tournament - This Sunday
Last month the club ran it's first Second Sunday tournament and the players had a great time trying out the new "Fleshman" format. The format requires that players "wager" handicap points prior to each match. This makes it competitive even for lower level players. Everyone has a chance to win big. Cost of entry is $2 (plus the regular $5 fee for non-monthly members). Join us again this Sunday at 2pm, for another chance to take home the pot.

Referee Seminar Update
We now have 11 (6 from out of town) attending the referee seminar to be conducted by Larry Kesler on 9/22, 6-10pm. The seminar is to help prepare you for taking the certified referee exam. You must have passed the USATT umpire exam prior to attending the referee seminar. The umpire exam is open book and costs $10. Email programs@... if you want to take the test. Let me know by tomorrow if you plan to attend the seminar. Seminar cost is $25.

If you're wondering why the style of these emails has changed, it's because Yahoo's rich-text / HTML tool in the groups area is buggy, and text in previous articles was being truncated. So I've simplified the emails to avoid problems.
