Dear friends,
Last summer we anticipated that the construction for our new table tennis facility would begin in September and would be completed by the end of 2007. Construction was delayed due to problems with the city providing utility service. This issue has now been resolved. The property hosts two other occupants that were also affected by the delay. Our neighborly friends are another nonprofit organization and a self storage company. The self storage site should be fully operational within the next 30 days.
City permits are currently being processed for the construction of our building. These permits are expected to be issued in 6-8 weeks. Construction will begin soon after receiving the permits. Building construction is likely to take three months, then club volunteers will begin the finish out of the interior (installing wall boards, painting, tiling, etc). Finishing the interior of
the facility depends on the help we get from club members, and we hope many of you will pitch in. We're now working to get costs for interior materials and fixtures and are planning on stock piling these materials as we find good prices.
Last year the club signed a lease and put a deposit down for the first year of occupancy in the new facility (this investment was approved by an official club vote). After the first year, the club will hold title to the facility with a long term financial obligation for the remaining construction cost (donations will be applied to cover as much of the construction cost as possible).
We're getting very excited about the project now, and we hope you are too. In the coming weeks we'll be looking to you all for help with some decisions about the building and for additional financial support.
In case it hasn't "hit you" yet, this is really
going to happen! We've created a Building Project Web page to keep you informed. Check out the building information and the incredible 3D drawings, then start thinking about how you can help out and get involved. The club needs you!
