I have ordered a Newgy "Robo-Caddy" for the robot. This will basically
put the robot on its own set of wheels, instead of hanging on the end
of the table. You can raise or lower the head height, and move it from
side to side or back from the table, providing a much greater variety
of shots and serves to practice with. And, it can be quickly wheeled
away, providing us with another court on busy nights or during
tournaments.
The only downside is that the ball catch net is much less effective
when the robot is away from the table. I'm working on that one.
The "Robo-Caddy" will arrive next week some time.
I will also be cleaning the robot in the near future, and trying to fix
the current problem with the weak/irregular ball feed.
I have found a pretty good table tennis beginner's guide in PDF form
which I plan to print off and bring to the club. It is written with
the robot in mind but is an excellent all-around introduction to table
tennis.
Finally, if you notice a problem with the robot, or have any ideas
about its use, I would appreciate a note or a post to this newsgroup.
Thanks.
