Sounds like a great goal Matt! :-)
One thing to consider is if you are running a tubeless set up, or with tubes? The tire selection is probably a bit different depending on what option you are doing there.
Kincaid is generally considered "hard packed" terrain... so most folks choose to ride a lower profile tire with lower rolling resistance. On the occasional days that are rain soaked and slippery, maybe a bit more aggressive tread would be called for, but if you are just looking at one set of tires I'd go with something with smaller knobs.
Personally... I rode with tubes up until this last summer, and had great luck with the Maxxis Crossmark for a couple of years... nice light tire, good bite in the corners, but low profile.
This last year I switched to a tubeless set up (and really like it!)... and on the advice of the boys at the shop, went with the Schwalbe Racing Ralph. Absolutely no complaints. Running some lower pressure... it has that bite but still the low profile for easier speed.
So, if you are talking about tires pretty much for Kincaid... that's my input... if you are looking for a set of tires that can do more... more mud, more rugged terrain (like doing Resurrection and such), then a beefier tire might be better.... or just get two pairs!
See you on the trails...... Andy

Any suggestions for 26" mountain bike tires? This year in the Hammerman I'd really like to win first place in the 30-35, Cancer/Horse, UAA graduate, befreckled, male category. I think I stand a pretty good chance. But should I go with aggressive tires to help me crawl up the hills or lightweight tires to ease the burden as I push my bike up more hills?
Thanks!
