The Austin Gay Leather Social Wed, April 10th.
The Austin Gay Leather Social is the 2nd Wednesday of every month
from 7 to 9pm at Rainbow Cattle Co, 305 W5th. All are welcome to join
us provided they are Gay or Lesbian and share our common thread -
Leather. A few of us realized that Austin really hasn't had much of a
gathering space for gay leather folk. So we ask that other gay men
and lesbians who are into the scene or who might be interested to
meet us monthly in a non-organized social. We especially encourage
those who may be new to the scene or not had much experience to join
us in a queer-friendly gay space. Remember Leatherfolk won't bite,
unless you get on your knees and ask nicely! Join our Yahoo Group at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/austinglbleatherbdsmsocials/ to receive
reminders of upcoming events. Check out our new website at
http://www.austingayleathersocial.org./

****This Month's Demo ****
MUMMIFICATION
Come see Daddy Tim wrap up boy dan and socialize with your best
friends at the Leather event of the month! Last month we packed the
house with Leatherfolk and we know this demo will keep some of you
tied up all night! We have a twist to mummification: we're using
Vetrap.
Chorizo Meatloaf and Yankee Pot Roast are the palatable portions that
Pappy is preparing for your pleasure, so come with an appetite. The
Rainbow Cattle Co is located at 305 W 5th. I look forward to seeing
you all there.

Yes Bob there is a free heated place to swim in Austin, but I will have to show
you in person. Ask me next time I see you or e-mail me to rendezvous.
Tim
Hey guys. My name is Brett. I like all the sports
I just listed and I was wondering if any of ya'll
ever get together and do these things. I would like to
get involved with the crowd. Respond back. Later

The monthly Austin Gay Leather Social is this
Wednesday from 7-9 at the Rainbow Cattle Co. RCC is going
all out for us this month, providing a roast pork and
chicken dinner for us. After we lick the chicken from our
fingers, we can get our licks in on some cute butts during
the spanking demo. Bring your favorite toys, hands,
paddles or legal bare butts for a hands on demo. Check
out the club website at:

Hey Guys,

Recently relocated back to
Austin (after being away 10 years) and looking for other
guys who are into Kayaking and Biking (beginner here).

I've also joined "The Hills" fitness out on Bee Caves
and just may be the only gay man there, but it's the
only gym that had both swimming and yoga included in
the membership. If there are any other guys here that
work out there that would be interested in working out
together please let me know.

Please feel free to
email me at mhbrooks@... or

If your New Year's resolution is to start a yoga
practice, here is a great opportunity to learn from a
qualified, professional 'family' instructor.

Mention
this email, and get the discounted price of $30 for
your first private lesson. I can also teach groups, if
you're able to provide a space for us to practice. Feel
free to forward this email on to anyone who's
interested. (Please be aware that I am strictly offering
professional yoga instruction - absolutely no BS.)

I
can teach all ages, and all fitness/flexibility
levels. The most common misconception about yoga is that
you must be flexible; in fact, anyone can benefit
from yoga, regardless of fitness or flexibility level.
Over time, regular practice will increase your
flexibility and overall spinal health, and strengthen your
immune system.

The styles I teach are outlined
below (in order of personal preference). All of these
styles are technologies that are thousands of years old,
and well-respected throughout the yoga community.

Ashtanga Yoga (aka 'Power' Yoga) - A vigorous style that
links postures together in a flowing sequence with
breath. It builds strength, flexibility, and endurance,
and is a challenging workout. If you've taken a
'Power Yoga' class at the gym, you probably haven't
experienced this traditional form of yogic technology. This
is an excellent practice for athletes, and can
substitute for both cardio and stretching on your 'off' days
from training. (The term 'Power' yoga was coined by an
Ashtanga Yogi in the late 80's. Since then, the term has
been watered down to mean whatever the gyms want to
teach.) Ashtanga has been popularized recently by Madonna
and Sting - neither of them has lifted weights in
several years, they practice Ashtanga for 2 hours
daily.

Kundalini Yoga - A dynamic, sacred style that uses breath
integrated with movement to align the chakras (subtle energy
centers), energize the body, strengthen the immune system,
and balance the glandular system. Kundalini is the
spiritual energy of awareness which is activated and
channeled through yoga and meditation. A class usually
consists of breathwork, followed by exercise, and ending
with chanting / meditation. For energy, growth and
transformation, try Kundalini Yoga.

Hatha Yoga - The most
widely practiced style is based on 84 postures. A class
usually consists of 10+ postures. The movements and deep
breathing techniques increase flexibility, tone the
muscles, focus the mind, and aid in relaxation.

If
you want to learn Ashtanga or Hatha, you'll need to
purchase a yoga 'sticky' mat, available in many places for
about $20. It's preferable to practice these on a
hardwood or tile floor. For Ashtanga, you'll also need a
heated room - at the studio we close off the air vents,
turn off the fans, and use space heaters. (This is not
to be confused with Bikram Yoga, a newer style which
is practiced in a room heated to 108 degrees. For
Ashtanga it just needs to be about 95 or above.)

As
one of the many recently laid-off techies, I've
started to focus full-time on a skill that I acquired out
of my love for yoga, to enhance my personal
practice. I've practiced yoga since 1996, and completed my
200-hour teacher training certification in May of 2001.
I'm a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga
Alliance, the American organization that sets standards for
and certifies yoga instructors. I'm continuing on to
complete my 500-hour master level certification in May of
2003.

I have taught regularly at Yoga Yoga
since June of 2001; I currently substitute teach, and
will return to the regular schedule at the new Yoga
Yoga Westgate Studio (in the Central Market South
shopping center) when it opens in May.

Feel free to
contact me directly with any questions at
spellboundtx@.... Please be sure to leave your phone number if
you'd like me to call you.

Namaste',
Kevin
Looking for an evening workout bud at the World
Gym - Mopac/183 location. I'm 39, professional,
muscular, masculine, HIV-, in a committed long-term
relationship, and been working out for about three years. I
don't care about your age but I am NOT looking for a
complete novice. I typically work out two weekday nights
and one day on the weekend.

While I'm posting
to a few gay/bi lists, because overall most gay/bi
guys tend to be more concerned with their health and
appearance, I'm NOT looking for a fuck bud. I'm looking for a
mature, serious and committed gym partner with a good
attitude and a sense of humor.

If interested, I can
be contacted at austxmusc@...
Weather not perfect but heading down to
Townlake
today for my first run in several months. I will be
running several times a week on reg basis if anyone is
interested in joining me? Pace is not a factor, but running
on reg basis is. I am 36, 6', good shape but running
helps me tone and feel
better. IM me if interested
in AFTERNOON (like around 3ish) runs.
Hi,

I'm trying to get in better shape and
strengthen my muscles. Normally, I work out at home and jog
around Town Lake. I would like to have a work out buddy
to help me along. I'm available in the afternoons
and evenings. Please send me an email.

Thanks!
:)
Do yourself a favor and take a lesson. Not being
facetious, it's really the best thing to do if you're just
starting out before you get into bad habits.

All
golf courses have teaching pros and I've heard that
Golfsmith off of I35 has a good deal for lessons.
The Austin Gay Leather Social is the second
Wednesday of the month at the Rainbow Cattle Co. We meet
from 7-9 to socialize and network among gay and
lesbian leatherfolk. This month we will have an informal
demonstration on flogging. If you have ever wondered about
bdsm, this is a nonthreatening atmosphere to find out
what it's all
about.
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/austinglbleatherbdsmsocials
I
hope to see you all there Wednesday.
Tim
I haven't heard, but I second the request for info. I think I'd like to play
this year, if there's room for some inexperienced folks.

Cheers,
Chris
Thank you all for the info. I appreciate your
input. I am in Central Austin, so distance to a gym
isn't as important as is comfort level and the other
qualities I mentioned.
I think I'm leaning towards World
Gym, but am still shopping.
Sincere thanks
again,
Fred
There isn't a gay gym but most are gay friendly.
I don't think the World Downtown is as cruisy as it
once was. But as far as being a gym, it's depressing.

It depends on what part of town you
want.

World may be your best bet because they are all over
Austin. The Burnet/183 location is probably the most
"gay". Powerhouse downtown is very nice. Not crowded.
Somewhat gay. Not cruisy at all.

That's all I can
comment on. If you need a good personal trainer though,
drop me a line and I'll give you a couple of names.
The Downtown World Gym is The Gay Gym in town. I
understand that 'stuff' happens there, but I have not
participated in or even seen anything going on. It is
comfortable and cruisy when I go weekday afternoons. It is
mostly gay men at that time.
If you are looking for
a workout partner I am available. I have had
personal trainers but can't really afford that luxury
today.
Hope this helps.
Tim
Hello All, I am a relatively new member with some
questions regarding gyms.
I am looking for a "gay
friendly" gym where I can work out. I am interested in
aerobics 4-6 times a week and weight/strength training 2-3
times a week. (I may even give myself the gift of a
personal trainer for a month or so..not sure yet.)
I
was exercising regularly and kind of plateaued back
in September but after the attacks, I stopped. It's
time to start up again.
I'm NOT looking for a
cruisey gym, (I know that'll happen anyway) just a place
to go where the staff is welcoming, friendly, and
helpful.
Any suggestions a/o experiences you can relate here
will be truly appreciated.
Thanks, Fred
My goal is to compete in triathlon this year but I need some help on swimming
technique. If anybody knows a good coach or is one themselves email me. Thanks.
