Sunday November 2, 2003 - Under rain clouds and with a crowd of over 600
watching, the Austin Bat Boys took to the field against the team assembled by
KVET 1300am's Bucky & Erin. With the weather uncertain the teams were ready to
start. With KVET as Home team, the Bat Boys were first to bat. The Bat Boys had
a great first inning scoring 6 runs before KVET was able to get the 3rd out.
Kvet answered with 1 run in the bottom of the 1st. The weather held out, and so
did the Bat Boys, taking the game 14-4, and proving to Bucky and Erin that gay
guys can play softball.
After the 4th inning, the fans were asked for donations for the two charities of
choice - Interfaith Care Alliance and Project Transitions. The fans came, they
cheered and when asked, they opened their wallets for the charities. There was
over $1100 collected from some of the greatest softball fans that exist. Andy
from Rainbow Cattle Company, The Austin Bat Boys sponsor, Pledged to match all
donations up to $500. Add to that the $200 that KVET has pledged to donate, and
over 1800 was raised for the charities.
The Bat Boys were the First, but now have fostered 4 more teams, and are working
at adding more. Visit
