Shooter's,

Blind Pete asked that I send the following:

"Our matches are possible only through the efforts of our volunteer IDPA Safety Officers.  Without our safety officers, there would be no matches.  You will note that a couple of weeks ago we ran a two-day classifier (with a total of 61 shooter runs).  This week we are having our regular match in two parts:  we have 20 shooters signed up Friday and 22 shooters on Saturday.  This is a total of 42 shooters and no wait list.  If we had just run the match on Saturday (and everyone wanted to shoot, there would have been 18 shooters left out (because we could only handle 24 on Saturday).

Why am I telling you all this?  It is because there is a consequence to increasing the number of matches.  We need more qualified IDPA safety officers.  Recently, we have been using 8 safety officers  for our regular Saturday 8 stage matches (4 primary safety officers and 4 back ups).  When we increase this to a double match, we double the number of safety officers required.

What would I like you to do?  First, if you are not an IDPA safety officer but would like to become one, please let us know.  We are trying to set up an IDPA safety officer course in the near future.  Note that you do not have to be a high ranked shooter or even a particularly experienced  IDPA shooter to benefit from this course.  The course is primarily about range safety and will benefit shooters at all levels.  Second, if you are an IDPA safety officer but have not been used as such at AAFG in the past 6 months, please advise.  The records of who has completed the IDPA safety course are not complete, and even if they were our memories may not be perfect, so we may simply be unaware that you are an IDPA safety officer.

We seem to be doing something right at AAFG IDPA at least as judged by the number of people who want to sign up for our matches.  We would like to keep this up but we can do it only we have enough safety officers so that we can rotate them from time to time and not burn them out."

Also, I know I promised to forward a few of you the following, then decided it was worth putting it out here:  Joe Dickey of Corsica Coatings http://corsicacoatings..com/Home_Page.html is now handling MD FFL transfers (and also provides a fired case service) for a fair price for those who need it.  He also does custom coatings (both slide and grip texturing), AR-15, AK's and rifle work, Glock grip reductions (for example, he did Blind Pete's G21SF), and sales on consignment, along with being a Class III manufacturer he can do Short barreled shotguns and rifles as well as suppressors.  His shop is 25 minutes over the bridge from AAFG.  You can reach him directly through the above website or send an email to Joe at  corsicacoatings@...
