OK!! Well...the prospect on the Marlins team in my opinion is Blaine Neal,
who plays for the Kane County Cougars in Illinois. (Long season A ball for
the Florida Marlins) He came out of no where (a.k.a. Utica) lol, and started
pitching in Spring Training after surgery on his arm. He was moved up to Kane
County (about a month into the season) from extended spring this year, and
has been there ever since. When he was here last year he was our first
baseman, and didn't really stand out, but now he's got an 0.00 ERA and is
currently 1-0 as a relief pitcher. I think he's got real potential ....enough
blabbing on that :) :) Seeing he's in A ball not AA lol but look forward to
him being in AA quick.
Portland is our AA stadium, and it's great. Try the Sea Dog Biscuits when
you're there. :d Those are enough to get me to come back and visit ANYDAY!
I write for the "Dog Watch" a Marlins Minor League Affiliate newsletter, and
that's how I got myself involved in all these mailling lists, and I love em!
Keep the news coming, and "go fish!"
Jillian
Hi all -- The list now has 33 members which is not a lot, but enough to
be helpful to many of us. It's time to start talking. I am still
hoping for a chance to share my (excellent) seats at Prince George's
Stadium with anyone visiting the Bowie area, and look forward to meeting
any list members in Reading when our boosters once again travel to your
ballpark on July 11th.
Our young organization has also had good trips to Harrisburg, and
Altoona, but a warning goes out to any clubs planning on a trip to
Trenton. After reserving tickets to the June 6th. game, we arrived to
find none available. I won't go into details, but at least for
fan-trips to this ballclub, get your tickets in hand before you get on
the bus.
Special to Orioles minor league fans, check out
http://www.orioleshangout.com for a great site covering all levels of
the organization. Senior editor Tony Pente is a regular in the press
box (and clubhouse) with the Bowie Baysox, and you'll enjoy your visit
with him.

The 1999 John Hancock All-Star Fanfest
BETHEL, Conn., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Major League Baseball Properties has
named Star Struck (Amex: KAP) the Minor League Baseball Retailer for the
upcoming 1999 John Hancock All-Star FanFest during the All-Star Week. This

I recently went and saw Matt Riley pitch for the Baysox. Whoo...is he gonna
be good one day! I have never seen a lefty with that much zip or curve on a
ball. I was watching an Orioles game and the announcers were interviewing
Frank Wren, the O's GM, and he said that Riley may get a chance with the O's
in September! I think that'd be great to see...he could turn out to be the
next Sidney Ponson, who, I might add, pitched one heck of a game for the O's
down in Atlanta tonight. I'm a little under the weather, so I couldn't make
it up to PG Stadium to welcome home our B'Sox. It's tied 7-7 in the top of
the ninth...we'll see how it goes!

Tom Hage's base hit up the middle scoring Howie Clark was the only run the
Baysox needed last night, defeating Reading 1-0 in front of 6,535 at PG
Stadium. Another GREAT pitching performance by Javier Delahoya, who
deserves the early season MVP award. He gave up 4 hits in 8 innings. Ryan
Kohlmeier got his 7th save, striking out 2 in the ninth. The Baysox and
Phillies meet again tonight at PG Stadium. Let's see if we can sell the
place out!

The Ravens defeated the Trenton Thunder today, 7-6, in front of an
announced crowd of 3,065. Paxton Crawford and Dennis Stark, the
starters
for the Thunder and Ravens, respectively, were both ineffective.
Relievers
came in and more or less hut down the run scoring until the Ravens
pushed
a run across in the bottom of the ninth for the win.
Yale Field remains a great place to see a game, with a real old-time
feel.
This year, the team has removed some seats and installed a bar where
people
can watch Yankees, Mets, Red Sox and Mariners games live on TV. Sort of
an interesting concept, though I'd rather watch the action on the field.

Hey baseball fans!! Just thought I'd introduce myself to everyone on here.
Now that hockey season's over and my team's out, I'll pick up on the Bowie
Baysox and follow them. They're doing really well this year, although they
lost a tight one 5-4 to Altoona today. They took 2-of-3 from Altoona, to
increase their record to 15-7. Harrisburg, the worst team in the south, or
close to it, is in here for 3 Monday-Wednesday. I'll try and post
box-scores and stuff for the Baysox if anyone wants them up there...I try to
be at every home game, and I get the away games on the radio. They have a
real good website, although some of it is still under construction.
www.baysox.com Thanks!

I'm announcing a new site just created. In affiliation with Jim Furtado's
BaseballStuff.com, I've created the Minor League Newsstand.
The Minor League Newsstand has links to each available sports section of each
local paper for each Minor League team. It's cross-referenced 3 different ways
for convenience.
It works best with Internet Explorer. http://www.gate.net/~midiotjm

I live in Jackson Tennessee, the home of the West Tenn DiamondJaxx.
the AA team of the Chicago Cubs.
I have watched many levlels Rookie A-Short, A-Long, AA and AAA...I
think AA level is the best. A fan gets to see young
players moving up.
Jackson had the best attendance in the Southern League last year,
and Pringles Park Stadium is BEAUTIFUL. There are three plauers that
appear to have a chance at sticking with the Cubs from last year's
Team: Neives, McNichol, and Farnsworth. Farnsworth is in a
similar role as Kerry Wood, a YOUNG talent with the potental of
BYPASSING AAA level to the MAJORS.
I am concerened. The Cubs let Kerry Wood Pitch too many innings
last year and Wood burned out. I hope if Farnsworth and McNichols
make it they will not wear their arm out with too much work.
I see Knoxville, Chattanooga and Orlando (Tallahassee)
with new stadiums in the future and Montgomery waiting
in the wings for a team. So the Southern League seems
to be healthy for the future.
btw, the closest I can describe Pringles Park is that it
is very similar to THE HANK in Mobile.

The Baysox recently hosted their third annual "Talkin' Baseball
Banquet." Jim Hunter, Orioles Play-by-Play Announcer was the featured
speaker. Other Orioles folks at the head table included Frank Wren (new
GM), Syd Thrift (Special Asst. to the GM), Ray Miller (Manager), Tom
Trebelhorn (Dir. of Player Development), Don Buford (Asst. Dir of PD),
and Mike Timlin (new closing pitcher). The Baysox were represented by
Jon Danos (GM), Joe Ferguson (Mgr.), and '98 Bowie player / O's first
base prospect Calvin Pickering. Peter Schmuck (Baltimore Sun sports
writer) offered comments on his recent trip to Cuba with O's owner Peter
Angelos. Rene Knott from WJLA Sports (local ABC affiliate) served as
MC.
Unfortunately there wasn't a great deal of information passed, (other
than how thrilled we all will be to have Albert Belle). Ray Miller (who
hated having his players participate in last year's Spring Classic at
Prince George's Stadium against the O's minor league prospects) gushed
about how great a day it was, but failed to announce that it was going
to be played again in '99.
Despite the lack of hard news, the folks who attended enjoyed
themselves, and got the needed baseball "fix" we all yearn for at about
this time of year. If anyone else spent an evening at a local minor
league banquet, I'd enjoy hearing about it.
