New Britain Baseball Club to hold National Anthem
Auditions on March 20th at Westfield Shoppingtown,
Meriden
NEW BRITAIN, CT. – The New Britain Rock Cats will hold
their third annual National Anthem auditions on
Saturday, March 20th at the Westfield ShoppingTown
Meriden (Meriden Mall). This is the Rock Cats’ version
of the popular TV show, “American Idol”, in that the
local Eastern League Club is again seeking the
region’s “next big star”.
Performers of all ages and styles are invited to
appear on the 20th between 10 AM and 2 PM at the
Mall’s Center Court. Each will then be called upon to
present their personal best combination of patriotism
and musical talent by rendering “The Star Spangled
Banner”. The audition’s grand winner will be given an
opportunity to sing the National Anthem again, but
this time at New Britain Stadium before a 2004 Rock
Cats game.
Last year’s winner – Jermaine Little – performed
before the Club’s Opening Day crowd of nearly 5,000
and received a thunderous ovation.
This year’s event, again sponsored by COUNTRY 92.5,
WWYZ-FM, will feature a panel of celebrity judges
including, among others, a Country 92.5 Personality
and ROCKY, the Club’s popular mascot.
The Rock Cats will commence their 2004 season on
Thursday, April 8th against the New Hampshire Fisher
Cats (the former New Haven Ravens) 10:35 AM at New
Britain Stadium. This Opening Day game is already sold
out. The Club’s Opening Night contest will be played
on Friday, April 9th with the first pitch scheduled
for 6:05 PM. The New Hampshire team will again provide
the opposition and good seats remain for this and all
other 2004 Rock Cats home games.
