Re: [AABL-FILES] Status

NY Eggmen checking in. I was a guilty party last year in not playing games. I told Tommie I had a minor emergency that needed my full attention last year so I had to temporarily drop out. All is now OK, I anticipate full participation next season.

My 2 cents:

I want no part of play by mail. All netplay for me.
1) A weeding out of weaker committed members is a good idea. A league vote or leave it up to 1 guy is fine with me. If that includes dropping me, I understand but hope it doesn't come to that.
2) I prefer to keep my team as it is now. I have rebuilt during 3 brutal years and feel my team is now ready to compete for a title.
3) This may be the pot calling the kettle black, but the fact that the WS has not been played yet is a very bad thing.
4) If Tommie is indeed done as commish, props to him for starting and running things these 6 years. He did a fine job.

This is shocking news for the Syrup City Biscuits! It really saddens me as well to think of this league not existing anymore.

One idea, if we plan to keep the league going, is to get a committment from all managers that plan to stay. Once we find out how many open teams there are, recruit new managers and have a dispersal draft for all the new teams. That way the new managers would have a say into the style of team they want to have. Just an idea. Plus if any managers would like to throw their team into the dispersal pool and draft from scratch I would be open to that too. It would give those with little hope of winning a chance, plus allow teams that have worked hard to mold their teams for the future the opportunity to keep building.

I am in favor of netplay if at all possible.

Just some ideas,

David

To All,

As Joe mentioned, the Big Timber Bisons would hate to see the league fold.  With many strong managers, great website and baseball through miserable winter conditions in Chicago there would certainly be a void in my Strat world..

Couple of ideas:
1.  Although terrible breech in strat fraternity, dump managers who had poor attendance without question (commish does without question from league.  No league voting, too many opinions.  Other leagues seem to fill positions rather quickly so we have time.

2.  Mail league in lieu of netplay?  Auto play games at each end of block.  I personally like the netplay format but may help attendence.

3.  Restart league dump all players into pool and redraft / restart league.  May gain more interest in league with the poorer squads and attract new "good blood". ( havent follwed records of poor managers that closely but my clubs record over the past few years hasnt kept me away. (64- 98 , 68-94 stunning).

I would like to hear the other league officials weigh in on all of this.  Rob, Dan and would John O'donnell (Delaware) be coming back to the league after his departure last year.

Tommie, hope that you change your mind about running the league we sure have time.  Maybe some of us can help with recruiting, league files, website, etc.
Just my thoughts.

It is very disappointing that it has come down to this. I can't believe the World Series has not been played yet. That is ridiculous! A shame to say the least.

When I first came into the league after the 2004 season, I took over a 100+ loss Las Vegas team. At that point I didn't know much about the ins and outs of Strat but my Folsom squad only lost 98 games in 2005, I was proud. Each and every league member that I asked for help was more than willing to help and share their knowledge.

This season I finally made it to the playoffs. But it was bittersweet. We had a roll call to see who wanted to remain in the league. Pretty much everyone remained. But not everyone kept up their end of the deal. Some didn't even wish to play their games, just mailed in the year. I can't understand why folks would say "Yes, I want to be a part of the league", then continuosly let the others down by not participating.

Being in a league with 19 other owners, it is not just about YOU. Each and every one of us owes a responsibility to each and every other 19 owners in the league. If you couldn't have held up to your end of the deal you should have left so we could find active, caring owners to participate.

I would say that most of the owners in the league are great owners, all of us are great guys. Most of us really give a damn about the AABL. But a few bad apples....Very disappointing. I just wish they had quit before it came down to this. I hope the AABL remains, I like the league, I like the owners. I love Strat. It is very disappointing that it has come down to this.

I would like to keep the league going simply because we built it from the ground up but being as busy as I am combined with the lack of interest over the past couple of years, I think it's best if we just let it go at this point. I don't have the energy to fight the lack of interest in the league during the winter time.

If someone else wants the league I'll gladly hand over all the files and the Website I created for the league. Just let me know.

For what it's worth I have all of the regular season stats for the entire time we've been playing this league.

Sorry if this disappoints everyone but I have just come to the point where I have to let it go.

Regards,

Thomas Fischer
