Hi all:
The rumors are true. The final number of accepted on-track entries is 90+. In
fact, we started out by numbering the cars by threes to leave some room for
number changes, but then we realized that Altamont's scoreboard is only capable
of displaying two digits per position. Then we had to start over, which must
have been fun for the sorry chump who had to do it. So yes, if you are car #70,
that just means you were the 70th folder in our totally random stack of files.
For returnees: Lest you think that we're running the same course as last year
with 90 cars, well, we're stupid but not crazy. Or the other way around. Our new
layout is the longest possible configuration that Altamont can arrange, and the
total track length is somewhere around one mile. Last year, we had 33 cars on
3/10 of a mile, so in theory, 90 cars on one mile is actually slightly LESS
congested. (That math probably won't work at all, but that's our reasoning and
we're sticking to it). We're also hoping that the configuration will keep speeds
similar to last year.
Best regards,
Nick Pon
